Leigh Bowery-Inspired Generative AI Stage Performance
UAL × Tate Residency
2025
Inspired by performing artist and fashion designer Leigh Bowery, I recreated his iconic pink gingham shirt from the Mincing Queens series (1984) as a stage costume for the bassist of a post-punk band. Working closely with the performer, I adapted the silhouette, fabrics, and details to meet both the band’s needs and the performance context.
Alongside this, I created a heart rate-responsive LED system using AI coding support. The experiment extends Bowery’s interest in turning the body into sculpture by externalising its hidden rhythms—making the performer’s nervous heartbeat a visible part of the show.
